A hike along one of the Black Mountain ridges and then a very cold wild camp in the Grwyne Fawr valley. My first outing of 2022 and my first sub-zero camp. Despite the outside temperature I had my best night’s sleep so far thanks my Tensor Mat and Rab sleeping bag.
I started from the Blann-y-Cwm carpark and headed up through the woods and out onto the open hill reaching the top of the ridge near the Backsmith’s Anvil stone. From there it’s a little over 3 miles to the trig point at Rhos Dirion. After following the top of the escarpment sourh-west for a while I turned down into the Grwnne Fawr valley and followed the stream until I found a good point to pitch up for the night.
In the morning I carried on down the valley past the reservoir and back to the carpark.
