Fforest Fawr Wild Camp

Some weeks after my previous trip during which life and bad weather kept me away from the hills I finally managed to get back out to the Beacons to have a look at Fforest Fawr – that section of the park immediately west of the main peaks. Starting at Storey Arms (or more accurately the Pont Ar Daf carpark) I followed the Beacons Way to Craig Cerrig Gleisiad and briefly left the trail to summit Fan Frynych Where I met a part y of school children out on a day trip and having a great time of it.

I returned to the Way and followed it south-west and then south to Fan Dringarth stopping on the way to fill my water bottle from a small stream using my Sawyer Squeeze to filter it. From Fan Dringarth I did an out and back to Fan Llia before pitching for the night. I was treated to a lovely sunset before the temperatures dropped and I retired to the tent for the night.

Morning came with the sun rising over the Beacons to the east and after breakfast of Porridge and coffee I packed up and took the direct route back to the car by dropping into the valley and following the Nant Mawr up the other side, round the flanks of Fan Fawr and then down to the car.

About Me

Hello. My name is Roger and despite nearly 70 years experience of life I still haven't made any real sense of it.

I'm married to Linda who kindly shares many of my outdoor adventures with me. We have two grown up sons and two young granddaughters.

Retired after 40 years working for the same company I spend my time with my family, Hill-walking, Wild Camping, Scouting, and anything else I can fit in.
