Based in Keswick for the week we decided that to make it a bit of an expedition we’d catch the bus to Grasmere and walk from there to Rosthwaite, stopping at High Raise for the night on the way. Further we would add to our list of Wainwrights by going via Silver How, Blea Rigg and Sergeant Man on the way.
We caught the bus to Grasmere, had some coffe and cake and then set off through the village and up through Kelbarrow towards Silver How. Once up on the fell we found navigation tricky and the land is all bumps and hollows, many of which are too small to appear on the map but big enough to confuse!
However we soon arrived at Silver How where there are great views back down into Grasmere and beyond. Wainwright No.1 of the day done we headed for the tarn to the east of Lang How and then along towards Blea Rig where we a photographer who was planning to stay the night there. hHe was filming as well as taking photgraphs and would be uploading it to Youtube. (this was Adam Karnacz – aka – First Man Photography. Check him out on Youtube)
We carried on to near Sergeant Man, at which point we decided to stop and find a pitch. High Raise was only ten minutes away and there were some sheltered spots here out of the wind. We pitched, set up camp, ate and then went to explore. First to Sergeant Man to claim Wainwright No.3 and then up to High Raise for Wainwright No.4 and to watch a fantastic sunset. Then back to the tent , coffee and bed.
After a quiet night, breakfast and packing up we walked over High Raise, now in the clouds, then down to Greenup Edge, past Lining Crag and down Greenup Gill to Rosthwaite. There we caught the bus back to Keswick to end the the trip.
